Every data center makes three things in quantity: heat, a thirst for water, and a demand for power. Varda is a design that treats each of those as a resource instead of a cost. The heat the servers throw off is captured and piped to warm the homes around the facility. The water the cooling needs is harvested from the atmosphere rather than drawn from rivers and aquifers. And the energy the site generates for itself is sized to exceed what it uses, so the surplus flows back out to the grid.
The concept is written up in full at Varda Systems — the first facility, Varda-1, the five scale tiers from a single building to a district, the technologies it draws on, and the sources behind every number. It is a public document, meant to be read, questioned and built on.
Varda is where Skald is headed. The software we build now is how we get there.
